Someone mentioned Railroad Earth, and I have to say that i like those guys a lot. Some stuff can be..uninspired, for lack of a better term, but I still think they're worth your time. Another band, Donna the buffalo is very good. I find it hard to call the a jam band, but they often get lumped there. They're more Americana, I suppose. The David Nelson Band is definitely worth checking out. Those guys can play. They don't start out hitting you over the head with stuff, but before you know it, suddenly they are in the middle of a very well played extended jam. And a final note (from my experience) is Assembly of Dust. Granted, they can "miss' on some tunes, but they write really "literate" tunes. They strike me as understanding the pop/rock song structure, but they inject it with smart lyrics and very good musicianship. They are worth a listen, though I do know folks who have found them "boring", which in the realm of twirly jambandedness, I suppose I can see someone thinking that
